Sorry KrazyPlace but tbmoore is right. B&B sells unhealthy fish. I know for a fact they buy from the cheapest (worst) wholesalers, they do not quarantine, and they have horrible maintenance procedures performed by ill-trained kids. Bill told me one time basically that he makes his money on the d...

There is a big difference between the serious reefer who goes to great expense and effort to keep and propagate captive animals and some brainless mom who gives out clownfish for party favors at Jrs. birthday party. Or the greedy store owner who knowingly promotes this kind of behavior knowing that ...

Most 1911 style comp guns that use a double-stack mag like the Para Ordinance, STIs, Caspians, Brileys, and the new Kimbers etc. are able to use the hi-cap competition mags like the ones used in IPSC. Even though they are "pre-ban" you can buy them in pieces, like replacement parts except ...

The survival rate of those tanks is 0% Greedy store owners in Mobile have no intrest in promoting the hobby in the same way we think of it. A steady stream of one-time impulse buys from ignorant first timers results in better cashflow, and is a lot less trouble than worrying with savy hobbyist who c...

I think a Mag 3 is too much pump for a calcium reactor.
A 150 gal/hr (or less) pump will give you much better results.
Think of a cal reactor in terms of less is more when it comes to flowrate.
You have to give the co2 enough reaction time to fully dissolve.
Slow is good.

The aragonite in a calcium reactor should not be churning like a fluidized bed filter. If the media is moving around that much the flow is set way too high. The throughput of a calcium reactor has to be very slow to work properly. Particulary if it is a single chamber type. You should check the outp...

lzb3 is absolutely right about the UV sterilizer. The advantages drastically outweigh the disadvantages. The microorganism count in a tank is gazillions higher ppm than a natural reef in the ocean. A U.V.S. will not kill any beneficial bacterial that are living in or on your rock, sand, or tank wall...

there are a lot of people in the pet store business that don't know crap. One thing they all have in common is that they always have something to sell you to fix any problem. If the fish was swiming upright in the bag when you left the store it must have died from something you did. Your water quali...

Jahdiel, Watch the fish for a while. When he rubs, does he appear agitated like he's trying to rub off a parasite? Does he rub the same side every time? Does he yawn or flap his gills rapidly.? Do both gills look normal? Does he hold one side open? or keep one clamped? Does he look red or swollen ar...

If he has gill flukes you can get rid of them by freshwater bath or by just removing them manually. wet a towel with tank water hold him in the towel lift the gill flap if you see some critters attached to the gills use tweezers to crush them then pull them out, CAREFULLY I personally think the twee...

Oh yeah, You must be refering to the "how low can your pH go" thread. Actually I wasn't really scolding you personally. I was just grandstanding on my soapbox about the widespread problem of not quarantining new purchases. I have been guilty of it myself many times, even though all it take...
