Doc, do you have a phosphate test kit? We buy GAC in bulk for our remediation systems (for both vapor and liquid phase treatment). I've snaged a little and have always wanted to test it for phosphate leaching. One of our sites uses 20,000lbs of GAC to treat vapor phase gasoline contaminants that we ...

The only things I can think of that are critical for my office tank is; 1. make sure the sump can handle up to 2-3 days of evaporation without letting the return pump suck air. 2. get fish that don’t need food everyday (most are ok with this). 3. (minor) Have a battery powered airstone that kicks on...

hcakebox, Dont know if you knew, but there is a bunch of reefers up in your area that have a forum on reef central. Most of them are in North Alabama and would also be a good group for information, trades, or local meetings. The link is http://reefcentral.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=167

My 46 gal bf at the office has a temp range from 80-83. I keep the heaters set at 80 to maintain it during the night and when the MH kick the temp rises to 83 durring the day. I've never had a problem with this. The fish and inverts could care less. All my corals don't mind as I get great growth and...

Oh no! Busting out the Mohs scale:) While its theroreticaly possible since glass can drop down into the 5's based on percentage of amorphous SIO2 and steel can get up into the 6's, I think practical experience from most people is they have never had a problem with scratching the glass. Just be caref...

If you do entertain the ideal of breaking up, I would be interested in the live rock and one of the closed loop Little Giant pumps. I am still looking for those items for my own 120 I’m setting up. I may also be willing to pick up a few of the corals and/or fish if they were good deals. PM me if you...
