Re: MH HQI question

I'm late on replying as well. The glass actually blocks UV from the user, not the tank. Water blocks UV but only after a certain depth so that was my question actually; I don't remember how deep. I think the splashing is the more important aspect of safety here so it looks like I will have to hit th...

Re: MH HQI question

Yeah, splashing water is a very mild concern because the way my system is set up, I basically never have to clean the glass. My biggest concern is the UV light entering the tank. I was wondering if it would affect the corals. I know that water blocks UV after a certain depth, but that wouldn't be ac...

MH HQI question

Since I have basically pieced together my lighting, I run 2 250HQI MH and two T5's. I am trying to redo my lights so I can have more room under my canopy to get my hands in my tank. I know that HQI bulbs use the glass shield to block UV light for protecion. I want to know if there would be any damag...

LOL! Problem for him was that he was the only one at the party! I'm sure my corals appreciated his "efforts" though!

Re: Random Stuff (Tanks, Rock, etc.)

Man if I only had the money. I want to upgrade so badly to a 125 or better yet a 150, but with a little one on the way next month, it's just not in the cards. Hope you find a seller soon. Best of luck.

Re: Sump Build

There is no hard and fast rules that I'm aware of, but bigger is always better. With 80g of water I would probably go with a 30g sump. Big enough to make a difference but still manageable. 95% of the time space is the limiting factor on sump size. I would recommend getting a skimmer now. You are goi...

Re: 20 Gallon Lps/Sps Tank Setup

That's a very cool build. Orchids have always fascinated me. Here in Gautier at the "mall" (what a crap hole!), they have an annual orchid festival as it were. They have growers and vendors and such and it is amazing the variety of species. Def a beautiful plant.

Good luck and keep us posted. On another note, how are the dart frogs doing? That was a really cool build you did.

Re: Alk dosing causing precipitate

I've actually been reading up on it today. I read several articles that Randy Holmes-Farley wrote. He actually suggests adding to the sump in a high flow area though. I think I am going to try some, but I'm going to bake it as I would like to try and raise my pH some anyway as it stays at basically ...

A New DIY Project

I built this for a friend. It's made from 3/8" acrylic and the two nylon screws lock it to the sump. http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee415/bluwtr/Acrylic%20Sump%20Build%20with%20ATO/BTompkins%20Sump%20Build/20121018_115651.jpg http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee415/bluwtr/Acrylic%20Sump%...
