okay first thing i see wrong is were your carbon is going, if you have a carbon filter there no light will be able to get to the cheato.
i would move the carbon to the left or right in a free flowing area.
other than that looks like a good setup

from the picture, they look similar to a larger snail/slug looking thing(not sure the name)
but they are a very good alage eater

maratic acid will help remove the phosphates bound in the lr, sand
a BIG problem with most tanks is overstocking,and overfeeding,remember this when you set up the new tank
but i personally would start conpletely over!

I had to reaquascape my tank, I had too many dead spots
i have about 20-25 lbs, sitting in my sump for now
it's all pretty good size, a few smaller pieces
