Well, Ive always used 1/4 but thats been in my 75g sumps, if youre using a 29, 30, or a 20long, you can get away with 1/8

Thats up to you....Some people run huge sumps on tiny tanks.the footprint of this skimmer is small so it would work in a 10g sump maybe even a 5g.
