I agree. I normally leave that open for whatever migrates in there, that is their domain. I will throw rubble and such in there though, and normally have impressive size bristle worms grow up in the sump.

Well you have common, positive (i think) and ground. The Fulham is a grounded ballast, the old one probably grounded to the metal shield or something. You can probably just disregard the ground on the Fulham.
