Now plagued with the brown stuff....

Okay well I finally won the battle of the green algae! (crowd goes wild). Now I got the brown stuff. I have a clown tang which picks and choses what he grazes but its not doing much good. What else will eat the brown stuff and are phosphates the source for brown algae also?

By the time they start to get big, my house will be built and they will be swimming in a 300-500 in wall tank.

Hey!

ROLF Lee! That was me last year. Look at my avatar. Nothing but an empty tank with 220W of actinics. My name is Bert and I work for the DoD. I administer their server farm that houses the curriculum our young Navy students use to learn to fix aircraft, avionics, support equip, etc. I have been doing...

Your right brandon. My snails are escargo now for the trigger. For cleanup of the rocks, the tang is doing a great job. I have ordered an adult goldheaded sleeper gobie which will be as big as any other fish in my tank right now, and he will clean up the dsb. I had one before but he was under a year...

I believe the reason you cant keep them with corals because they are active and clumsy. They bump into a lot of things including the corals. I have never seen him even think about nibbling on them. All the fish in my tank are aggressive carnivores except for the clown tang, most of them I was told y...

Thanks man. I love taking pictures of the tank. Hopefully in 6 months the corals will be a bit bigger and I will post pics again. The first year sucked, but now that I am getting the hang of it, its a very rewarding hobby.

DIY Doser

I made a real simple doser for dosing kalkwasser by using a salt container, some plastic airline rod, and a maxijet airflow valve. For those of you not wanting to spend $50-$300 on a dosing pump, this is a great, and surprisingly accurate alterative. I use oceanic salt so I have plenty of these salt...

Some pics of my newbie tank

1 and 1/2 years old and finally starting to mature. I dont have enough money to spend on the fully grown corals so I just buy frags and watch them grow. I know they are small now, but I guess thats half the fun for me...watching them grow. Here's my setup: 75G AGA 20G Sump from walmart -2 250W Ushio...

Snakeman is right. Cut the stony stalk with a clean pair of pruning shears. I use a nice ratchet type. Remember to go with the grain because if you go against it, the stalk will shatter.
