I doubt it is an Acanthastrea. On the other hand, it is most definitely some type of Mussid.

NM354 had a 7 cube like that. I do not know what he used for heating-dont think he needed it with all the equipment heating the water. What all is on these tanks? A heater may not be necessary, even in winter.

I do not believe that drying is a practical option. It destroys the diversity that a reef tank needs to remain healthy in the long run (years). Many people I know of have had nutrient control problems some time after drying their rocks. At least in the "cooking" process, you preserve a lit...

That is a shame. There are priceless animals in both the aota and the az. at least their prize specimens are not lost. I am glad their leafy and weedy sea dragons remain alive (since this is what they are famous for, in addition to the huge outdoor swamp exhibit). I hope they can recover, since i lo...

Hi guys. Just got power at the time of this message. Mine originally went out on Sunday!!!! I couldn't believe it as I said "Sonofabitch aint even here yet!!!" Didnt have a generator, but I used a battery operated air pump and ended up with only one on my main tank and one on the seahorse ...

They sound very nice. I have heard of many melanistic morphs such as yours being a bit more sensitive than usual. B12 and C would be good alternatives, and if you have any live food cultures, these can be added to enrich it. Just a thought

Sorry about Bettamax, Sue. Aquatronics has previously gone out of business. You may be able to find some if you look hard online, but it is very difficult to find it.

raising the pH (~8.3-8.45) is a good idea. Also, make sure calcium and alk are at higher levels. the ph being higher ensures that CO2 cant be dissolved in solution for long, thus starving algae (to an extent)

This was a severe case. The venom caused a lot of necrotic areas in the tissue. I assume that rattlesnake venom is similar to other pit vipers in this regard.

I would if I could :( but almost all anemones are single-sex only. I would have to find male somewhere and then culture the larvae-a bit out of my reach at the moment.

Just posted some of the same pics on RC. Thought you guys might be interested in seeing them, too. As you can see by the pics, I have a lot of water changing to do.

Leopard Cat Shark
Seriously, practically anything that doesn't get big, isnt a blenny, damsel, other species of clownfish, or will be mutilated by the clownfish. Maybe some wrasse, cardinal, watchman goby, etc.

(Shark sounding pretty good right now, huh?)
