Just an update to this. I ended up getting a Blueline Velocity t3 and it works great. Extremely quiet. It did raise the temp 2 degrees though. :?

I have Purple and Orange Monti Cap and Green and Pink Pocilopora under Power compacts and do not dose and do not have a calcium reactor and do not have a protien skimmer. The Orange Monti is taking over the tank. Well that is encouraging. I guess I will start with montipora or pocillopora and once ...

Start with a couple of the less demanding ones, and see how they do.
Which would those be?

Acropora...what is needed for them to thrive?

I would like to keep acro's but I have heard that they require very narrow parameters to to happy. I was told by one lfs shopkeeper that ph and calcium levels must be maintained within such a small window that realtime monitoring and automated dosing is required. I don't currenlty have a calcium rea...

I think it depends also on what kind of filtration you have. If you have a refuge with plants....something you can export nitrates and whatnot...you can go alot longer. Also the smaller the skimmer...the more water changes.

Selecting a Closed-Loop pump

I'm in the process of setting up a closed loop system and am trying to find the best pump for the job. I bought a used Pan World 100-PX. My problem is it sounds like a jet engine in my living room. Does anyone know if that is a normal for this pump or if it is just loud because of wear and tear? Is ...

Southdown

Does anyone know where I can find some southdown or other reasonably priced reef sand around the Mobile/PCola area?

I friend of mine was moving and had a saltwater setup he wanted to get rid of. I'd kept freshwater tanks for about 8 years at the time and stayed away from saltwater out of fear of expense and high maintenance requirements. It was cheap. I can't remember how much but less than a hundred. I knew noth...

It's all coming together now    Thanks!
Are there alot of bubbles left in the discharge? Should I worry about it being too close to a return?

ASM are great skimmers. I ran a G-4 for a long time. Pretty much just plug and play. Sit it in 6-9" of water. Adjust the foam to about 3" below the top initially and dial it in wetter or dryer from there. If it is brand new or your tank has been very underskimmed you may want to try a low...

ASM G-3 Skimmer

Anyone have any experience with the ASM G series skimmer. It didn't come with any documentation and I don't know crap about setting this thing up. Also, I hear there are some modifications you can make to this thing to increase efficiency. Anyone tried?
