Re: MH HQI question

It'd be nice, if only to also get some extra intensity out of the lamps, since the glass attenuates some of it. I honestly thought about it myself, but I've heard of too many people having problems from the UV radiation. I mean, you get some regardless with MH, even with the glass, but I'm not terri...

Re: Re-imagined 40g build

Update: Turtle grass looking a little rough. May have to add a very small quantity of root tabs for it--like many fractions of a single tab, since it contains ammonium. The leaves are yellowed a good bit, at least older ones, anyway. I'm looking for signs of new ones starting to yellow. In any case,...

Re: MH HQI question

I haven't done it personally, but I've heard horror stories from those that have, purposefully or not. Andy on these forums had a single-ended lamp that cracked and immediately started causing problems.

Re: Re-imagined 40g build

Pics! Ignore the big breeder nets with my poor fish in it. Had to get them and didn't have room or time for quarantine. At least isopods can't get into these. http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z107/Amphiprion_photos/bd9e22898dbdb59e21c7f6b30691c6d9_zps67b27bfc.jpg http://i188.photobucket.com/albums...

Re: ESV B-Ionic Calcium doser FS/FT

Okay, help me out--how does it work? If you have a link to instructions, that'd be great. I'm trying to get away from using a bunch of dosing pumps (more electrical outlets, ugh).

Re: Re-imagined 40g build

More progress on the isopod situation. I've managed to catch another 2 dozen or so of these things, all in about 10lbs of rock! I think if I had more I'd be royally screwed, as there are absurd numbers of these things. Anybody reading this be careful with any new rock you get no matter where you get...

Looking good and you've made some real progress. Can't wait to see what it looks like as you both add more things and as things begin to grow in more.

Re: Re-imagined 40g build

Small update: I got the scrubber running--well, at least the water part. No lights yet, as I haven't had the time to make it to Home Depot. It is 100% overflow-powered, so no extra expensive, hot pumps to run the thing and no extra electricity. Seems to be plenty of flow with my modified drain, too....

Re: Re-imagined 40g build

I could do that and that would certainly smoke most of them out, if not all of them, and be much easier. However, it would do the same to the animals in my live rock, which is what I'm desperately trying to avoid. I want all that life and diversity in the rock and to retain as much of it as possible...

Re: Re-imagined 40g build

Well, got the sump running. Scrubber is still a work in progress, as is eradication of the cirolanids. I've caught about a dozen more over the last few nights. It is absolutely astonishing to me that there could be this many (70+)in less than 10 lbs of rock. To say that the population densities with...

Okay. What does your schedule look like over the next few days? Just pm me and let me know what I owe you for everything so I can run by the bank prior to picking it up.

Re: Re-imagined 40g build

Nobody's more sorry than me, trust me. It's going to set me back for weeks to months, unfortunately. I have to make sure these damn things are eradicated before I add any fish.

Re: Re-imagined 40g build

Setback #1: So, I got my live rock earlier today and was excited that I may actually be able to get my fish back sometime in the near future. Well, I was wrong. I noticed when I was putting my rock in that there was something that looked like an isopod. I then realized shortly thereafter that this t...

Re: 65 gal rebuild -- orchid paludarium

Drew, where did you get what looks like a Cryptanthus bromeliad? I've been looking locally, but I can't find anything other than the usual Aechmea and Neoregelia everywhere I go. I haven't tried online, as I've had bad luck with that in the past. I don't have a terrarium, paludarium or anything, jus...
