Re: Difficulty Finding Tangs & Other Fish

Looks like our local LFS's prices aren't so bad compared to elsewhere. I'm in Chicago this week on business, and I hit up 3 stores so far. Prices are outrageous here, over double what they should normally be. Yellow tangs go for $80 here; powder blue tangs $100-120, cleaner shrimp $30-40, etc. Wow! ...

Re: Difficulty Finding Tangs & Other Fish

The tank has been doing great, and the water has improved. I'm still around the 20-ish ppm for nitrates, which I want to be lower. Salinity, calcium, alkanlinity are not bad. I keep an eye on those quite often since I don't have a calcium reactor. I find myself having to add buffer and calcium every...

Re: Difficulty Finding Tangs & Other Fish

I've thought about having the store order me something. B&B said they would. I may call both them and Progressive and see who will be the cheapest. Most stores will do that as long as you pay up front, at least 50% usually.

Difficulty Finding Tangs & Other Fish

I am having a heck of a time finding a few fish, mostly Tangs. I was over in New Orleans this past week for work and stopped by the Coral Connection. The guy there told me they had issues in getting some due to political unrest or some situation over in the Indo-Pacific areas. Checking online seems ...

Re: Urchins

I have been to B&B probably weekly over the last month and a half being a "newbie" and constantly wanting to go crazy buying crap to put in my tank. I have not seen a tuxedo there; only pin cushion urchins and spiny urchins, both of which I bought, lol. I've been to Progressive twice i...

Re: Live Aquaria Group Order

I hope they have a medium Atlantic Blue Tang in stock, as well as a Midas Blenny and a Thompson Tang. Those are rare and apparently high demand items as they sell out as soon as they come in stock. Just really don't wanna have to pay $35 shipping for 2 or 3 fish.

Re: Live Aquaria Group Order

Bump. Anyone else interested to where we can get enough to get free shipping? The things I want from there are constantly in and out of stock; so my order $ amount will vary based on what they have when we do the order. Spent too much lately, so I'm sure it'll just be 1 or 2 fish for me. Hoping my p...

Re: Finally - Pics of my FREE 100 gal. Tank

Looks like nitrates aren't quite as horrible as I thought. I had Andy come over and bring his different test kits. (I'm not too well at reading those color charts). His test showed 10-20ppm for nitrates, which isn't awesome, but it's not as bad as I thought they were. I've noticed a little improveme...

Re: CHEATO INSTEAD OF NORI

Glad you asked this. I am wondering the same thing. My yellow tang is a dumbass for the most part, although healthy. He won't attach the nori attached to the mag float, even if I soak it in garlic; however, if I shake the mag float and let the nori break apart and float off into little pieces, he'll...

Re: Finally - Pics of my FREE 100 gal. Tank

I definitely have the Orange Spotted Goby (2nd one), and the Blue Spotted Goby (1st one--gray with blue spots).

Re: Finally - Pics of my FREE 100 gal. Tank

I have a med. size orange spotted goby that came with the tank, and a few weeks ago I picked up a huge (5" or so) blue spotted goby. Both of those are fine. The blue spotted big guy has found him a little cave in which he stays in. You can see his head if you look in the cave, and he'll occasio...

Re: Finally - Pics of my FREE 100 gal. Tank

My small yellow watchman goby died yesterday; 2nd one in a span of a few weeks. What's odd is that my other fish, including the yellow tang, and 2 other gobies, are doing great. Not sure if it's b/c the yellows that I've gotten were really tiny and more sensitive to their environment or what. I'm go...

Re: Finally - Pics of my FREE 100 gal. Tank

I changed the sock filter last night. I have quite a few of them that came with the tank...at least 5 or more. I'm going to try to change them weekly, continue vodka dosing, and let this algae in the sump stay there awhile and see how everything goes. I tested the nitrates yesterday, and I'm not so ...

Re: Finally - Pics of my FREE 100 gal. Tank

Still battling with high nitrates too. I didn't know this, but after reading some today, you're supposed to change out those sock filters every few days if you use them or they become nitrate factories. I've changed mine once or twice in the month and a half I've had the tank. I'm thinking that may ...

Re: Finally - Pics of my FREE 100 gal. Tank

Just curious, what impact does the foxface have on adding another tang? I know they are both herbivores; but other than that, do they fight or something? The tang is much larger than the foxface. I got one of those small ones on sale at B&B for $25. He's about 2" long. They seem to get alon...
