You might want to make sure the person knows what they are getting themselves into.

Why not just do a hang on overflow? I don't know how well the filter idea will work, a 1" drain does about 600 gallons a hour, whats to flow rate on the filter. I say do a HOB overflow. or T it off like Bkndsdl suggested.
