Re: Frag Swap

Drew has a lot of valid points but the things that they can do in Florida is different. We don't have 5 reef stores, we really only have one (al least in Mobile and Baldwin Counties). I have seen a couple others come and go but they couldn't make it. They didn't have the right stock, their set up co...

Re: Frag Swap

I wish I would've made it to the earlier meetings that were going on. Heck, I lurked here for almost 2 years before I joined and I only wish I had joined sooner. But hindsight is 20/20. It could be similar to that again. When we started there were only a handful of us but most of us were pretty pas...

Re: Thinking...

I will add Nanostreams to the list. Man, my list is getting long and I have just started. Time to take inventory.

Re: Frag Swap

Formal never was our 'thing' not that it couldn't be but it seems like there is just a lack of interest in Mobile in general. I honestly don't know why. I enjoyed the meetings and getting together even if it was just to see someone else's tank and talk crap about aquariums. Have you been to any of t...

Re: Frag Swap

I searched for some of the meeting we had early on but most of the pictures are no longer hosted anywhere. I did find Shawn's narrative on a couple here http://mbrk.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=1102 . I hosted the February 2004 meeting. Also, look at the Alabama Reefkeepers forum starting at the begi...

Thread was split because I hijacked hlanders thread. See other posts here: http://www.mbrk.com/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=5259&p=40943#p40943 I will tell you that the first meeting we had was at Cliff and Terry's house and there may have been 15 people there. It was good to meet others that had the...

Re: Changed: Protein skimmer what do you have/want

Just to add some content: My last tank was a 100 gallon that I purchased from Liz. It was stocked with SPS frags, a few SPS colonies that grew from frags, LPS (mostly branching frogspawn, Caulatrea and Echinophyllias) and a couple of softies. At first I used a Kent Marine skimmer that was pure crap....

Re: Thinking...

That is the first I had heard of the Nanostreams. They appear to be pretty small and I like the magnet mount. When I decide on a tank I may sell the Ampmaster after all, i just kick myself for selling the Dart so i have been reluctant to sell anything else hoping that I will get back into it.

I am not sure what you can see but the link to an image that you posted to Windows Live doesn't show up (you have to sign in to see it).

Re: Protein skimmer

You would be surprised. I lurked here a lot today (f-ing off at work, ya know) and I saw at least 20 other members log on. They just didn't post anything but maybe we can entice them with good, new content. So for all those just reading, I saw you, post what you have. If you don't have anything you ...

Re: Thinking...

Well just from an initial impression on the vortech powerheads, they seem good and they are certainly smaller than I thought they would be but i could use an AM (that I already have, calculated at approx $147/year) on a closed loops for a 3 years for what one with the controller cost not factoring i...

Re: Thinking...

The heat transmitted to the water is dependent on the pump that you use if the pump is water cooled, I think they were called Titaniums that were water cooled, then they add a significant amount of heat to the water. Most external pumps are air cooled which add little heat to the water. Powerheads l...

Re: Protein skimmer

Ok, lets change this to a survey. Let us know what skimmer you use, what you like or don't like about it, what skimmer you would like (reasonable) and what skimmer you would love (no holds barred). Also mention what size tank and what the inhabitants of the tank are so that we have some hard facts t...

Re: Thinking...

Not to squash the debate but I lean more towards a closed loop. If I want variations in the flow I can do that and I can get as high flow or a large volume of flow as I desire without any electricity in the tank. The downside is drilling the tank, which if you have to have the tank drilled for overf...
