Re: NEW TO HOBBY

Yea you might have to do some adjusting to the overflows. Basically the less air it draws the more water it will flow with a full siphon moving the most water. Try adjusting until you have a balance between enough flow, the right water level and noise. Also make sure the tank is level. Fixing a leak...

Nice to have this relatively close next time. I definitely plan on making a vacation around this and attending, anyone else thinking of going?

Re: NEW TO HOBBY

Yea wet sand typically isn't worth the trouble. Try to find something not too fine and powdery. T5 seems to really be the lighting of choice right now, I don't think you can go wrong with metal halide either. Personally I think pc light is garbage, I would not go that route. A good T5 set up by Aqua...

Re: A Small Problem

If you don't have a lot of animals like stoney corals using the calcium and you have been adding it for a while without testing it may be that high. I know I did the same thing years ago with my 75 and had mine around 800. I would suggest you stop dosing and see what happens. I would also test your ...

Re: Hey freshwater people

Don't wait on me to order. I'm still very much in the planning and deciding if this is even going to happen stage.

I'm trying to decide on doing this or a rimless 48x20x16 sps tank...sps is winning right now!

Orange Rics

I have a rock slightly smaller than a football covered , and I mean covered, in orange rics that's taking up too much real estate in my new little set up. http://inlinethumb31.webshots.com/45022/2334676540103389578S600x600Q85.jpg Here is a picture with 10k and actinic T5s. The rics are growing aroun...

Re: Hey freshwater people

Looking at one of these: http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?c=3578+3579+16744&pcatid=16744 The 360 has a good price for the features. Obviously run some floss and carbon but should I add something for additional bio filtration like the ceramic media? I also see no breaking su...

Re: Hey freshwater people

Yea I think I will go sumpless, quieter if nothing else. Do the plants provide enough biological filtration or does it need supplementing? I will go with a large canister filter for mechanical and carbon. I can always back off the lights if need, fixture does 3x54 and 2x54. How would all 6700k bulbs...

Re: Hey freshwater people

Not sure which way I'm going yet, thats what I am trying to figure out now. I have a 120g tank with a 5 bulb T5 fixture for lighting. The tank is RR but I really dont see much need to a sump so I will likely just cap the holes. From what I read you really want to dose CO2 with high light to avoid ma...

Hey freshwater people

I'm considering starting a large heavily planted fw tank. I was wondering if anyone had a similar set up and what equipment you were running.
