100g equipment suggestions

Post by reefer21 »

I'm getting a new 100g (60x19x20) for Christmas and I was wondering what VHO fixture I could get for my new aquarium? I'm going to mount the fixture in a canopy. I probably should say that I want a light that is reliable in construction and does not have any problems that anyone can think of. Also, I'm looking for a good skimmer too, I can't make my mind up as to what skimmer to choose though?

It all depends on what you want to keep. If softies and some LPS then you can get by with the 3 VHO's that an Icecap will fire. If you want to try some SPS, LPS and some softies maybe a 6 bulb VHO or T5 set up. Unless you want to use Metal halides. I believe that there are a few others making or selling ballast that look like IC's. THe URI ballast looks identical but it a different color.

There are probably dozens of skimmers that you can use. It all depends on what type you want.

The only other question I have is if i get this, what bulbs should i get URI bulbs or Coralife bulbs? Is there anywhere else that sells the fixtures and bulbs cheaper?

I have always used URI bulbs. I don't beleive the Coralife have an internal reflector.

That retro looks good. I am not sure if you can get one any cheaper.
