Want MH...worried about temp

Post by megelBeagle »

My problem is that I want to put two 250 MH's on my tank but I'm worried about temp.
My tanks temp stays around 79 degrees right now. That's with fans on the main tank and the refuge.
I have 2 vho's, 1 65 watt LOM refuge light, and 3 700-800 gph pumps contributing to the heat.
If a put two 250 MH's on top of that, will my water temp get out of control?
I REALLY don't want to buy a chiller!
If I stepped down to 175's would it make a difference?
Also, will the color of the MH bulb make a difference in temp?

It depends upon what you consider 'out of control.' 80-82 or so is fine. The halides shouldn't create too much of an increase if they are ventilated properly and are of a sufficient distance from the water. If your pumps are contributing that much heat, you may want to look into even more efficient ones.
