HQI vs. Single Ended

Post by megelBeagle »

I cannot get a consistent answer on this. Is a double ended bulb better than single-ended? I'm getting ready to buy some metal halides and I want to make sure I'm making the right choice.
I've heard I could get the same light from a HQI 175 watt as a SE 250 watt. Is that true?

The reflector makes a big diffrence. If you have the room for the luminarc reflectors, they will give you the best lighting. They are used for single ended bulbs.

There are two sizes.. large and the mini's. Most people will go with the mini's due to the size.

Double ended bulbs are nice, but they do not give you the coverage of a single ended bulb with the proper reflector.

A SE bulb with a luminarc reflector will out perform a DE bulb....also heat is an issue, since they are closed in a fixture, due to the uv produced by the bulb(it has to be sheilded at all times)

Swing by the shop and I can show you the luminarc / mini's & the DE fixtures
