Bluethroat Trigger

Post by Neuticle »

B&B has a decent looking 4" female bluethroat trigger right now. The only reef-safe trigger if you're not familiar with them.

I looked for one for a year, now that I'm fully stocked, I see one. It's a cool fish if you have the room.
100 gal mixed reef, 30 gal sump, 4x54w T5, 2x150w HQI, OctoX 200 skimmer, Kalk top-off, rocky mixed reef.

There are a few other triggers that could be classified as reef safe, but all could still be an issue. The Sargassium Trigger which is an attractive trigger is also the same type of trigger as the blue jaw and so is the crosshatch trigger. The crosshatch will run you some money though. The sargassium triggers can be found right out in the gulf actually but still tend to cost more than I would expect. The Pink Tails have also been suggested to be reef safe. I'd still watch all of them with inverts. The Male Blue Jaws tend to have better color to them.

Just because something is deemed "reef safe" does not mean that it's invert safe or small fish safe. It can live in your reef environment without bothering your corals but kiss your shrimp, hermits, crabs, and other critters of the sort goodbye.

Sargassum and Blue Throat triggers are both classed as "reef safe" in this category, but again, you need to make sure the rest of the environment around them is not filled with expensive snacks.
