Mushroom removal

Post by Scott » Thu Jan 22, 2004 6:52 pm

This is kind of a propogation question. Does anyone know a way to remove a mushroom from a rock without cutting it off?
Wanted: to set up a tank again.

Would it be possible for you to point some current at it.. Mine always seem to "let go" when under current. I bet you could do the ice-cube in a bag trick like with anemones to get it to let go... would probably take a while though :)

It's ok to cut it you know, both pieces will grow back.

I know thats the problem. I cut one off and used a toothbrush and rinsed the rock and 5 grew back.

Just pretent you are working hard at growing them and you will feel better about the whole ordeal Scott. You keep trying to kill it and it will mock you every time you pass by the tank.

You think if SPS grew and multiplied like mushrooms, and mushrooms RTN'd, and were a pain to grow,...we would all try to have a tank full of mushrooms?

You could shoot it with some high kalkwasser solution and kill it.

Personally I am thinking about taking those rocks covered in shrooms to the LFS and trade it for live rock.

That is the best way to get them out of the tank... I had to do it that way.

You got the first dibs, Kevin!! I have at least three rocks that I want to remove. When I have the heart and completely sober, to tear up the top part of my tank to do this, I will let you know.
