Found this the other day, is it sponge or coral. Its about a 1/4" dia, and growing. The ployps were somewhat retracted the time of pic, from a recent move. Anyone know :?: :?:

It looks like a tiny piece of yellow porites or something similar (at least thats my guess). If it has any sort of discerable polyps, then it cannot be a sponge. Try to get a clearer pic with the polyps out and maybe you can get a more positive ID.

Definately not a sponge. Maybe you could move it closer to the glass to get a close up with the polyps out. That might be the best way to find out short of letting it grow.

I have seen a goniopora or alveopora that had that coloration and looked like that but you said it was growing so that is probably not it.

I think its Yellow Porites Coral. It started on (what I thought) was a dead coral bought as live rock awhile back.

It's had to gage the size from a pic but if it is very small it could be. My Porites has a lot more polyps per 1/4" than that though. Here is a bad pic. The whole thing is only 2 inches tall

Sponge. The polyps that you are seeing is the osculum that the water flows out of when the sponge is resparating or feeding or whatever they do.

Sponges dont have a hard skeleton. With polyps that retract when you touch it :?:

I wish I had a 5+ mp camera, I could really show the detail of the skeleton.

The last pic looks like a sponge but it can be hard to tell with only a pic unless you can get a close up. Just going by the last pic and the color it doesn't look like a porites.
