Interesting little critter

Post by sb1227 »

Well, I've finally found a whatnot critter, living in my Aqua Delight (SP?) Acropora. I thought he was a crab at first, odd looking but....

He looks much like a shrimp, I can't see him well and he sure blends. A kind of lemon-green transparent color, eyes bug out directly on the sides of his head opposite each other. Body is difficult to see but kind of like an elongated ant at one end. He seems to be living in this Acro, I haven't known of him there but a few days now. The only thing is his head, almost like a snout protruding between his eyes.

Any ideas? I'm off to look up weird inverts.......

Pics? Forget it. That ain't gonna happen. :P

That looks somewhat close, considering I can't get a really good look. I did find it interesting the lack of obvious antannae.

I was actually going to name that species, since they are so common. Alpheid shrimp can be found in lots of different corals--I have seen them in Acropora, Pocillopora, Seriatopora, and the like. Cool little guys and harmless. They are good at protecting their commensal "hosts."
