Small Clam???

Post by 2Timer » Wed Oct 29, 2008 8:53 pm

I haven't added anything new to my tank in the last 2 months. I thought something died when I saw what appeared to be a shrivelled up black mushroom in the back of my tank. I scooped it out only to realize it was alive.

It appears to be a clam of some type. A solid black shell with an off-white or light gray mantle. It's about 1 inch long.

Is that possible? If so, are there any special needs or dangers?

I will post a pic when I can get a better one. Right now I'm at home alone with only a cell phone camera.

And just when I thought I had burnout.

You'd be surprised what may show up. If it has lived this long, something in the tank is supplying the necessary dietary demands--the fact that it is tiny may help, also.
