Post by KrazyPlace »

Has anyone built a fluidized bed for either carbon or Ferric Hydroxide? I want to mix the 2 and use a single fluidized bed for both. :?

I can build one out of PVC and a small pump, but I figured you guys have done this before... share the knowlledge!! :D

I was planning on building a crude version of one. I would like to see some plans though.

I can give you the actual calculation out of my mass transfer book. That's how I'm going to size mine.

Deltec's hardware are top-notch based on reviews against other manufacturers.

I think I'm gonna go with a 2-liter coke bottle and a big gulp straw :)

Seriously.. I don't see how it could work with pvc, because you couldn't see it in order to adjust the flow. You wouldn't know if it were compacting on the bottom, or getting ready to come out. I'm just searching for a cheap fluidized bed filter..

Maybe something like this:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... gory=46310
or
Convert this?
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... egory=3212

There have to be some used ones around from when fluidized sand bed filters were all the rage.

Man, only $30 bucks. That would be sweet. Definitely worth a shot. Anyone trying to find out if it is really discontinued?

Yeah Scott, it is actually the same concept. Using a pump to pump the water in, making the media flow around with the water, and then out the other end. The main issue is maximizing flow without blowing the media too high and having it leave the filter.

Has anyone bought the cheap fluidized bed from ebay yet for $31? I want one and will probably buy one as soon as I have some cash. I was hoping someone else already took the risk and tried it out.

I ended up picking up one from Amazon's River on Friday for $49. I like it a lot, real heavy duty. I can't remember the name or model on the one I got, can take a picture of it or give more info if interested.
