quick / easy DIY 10G nano

Post by ShagMan »

I did this in a hour or so today, not including some drying time for the "Krylon touch" spray paint... I think it came out pretty well, so I wanted to share, in case somebody wants to do a nano, for home or work. I stole the idea of the floodlight over a 10G from Jeff/KrazyPlace's refugium, which I loved the look of... I also run these floodlights, a pair of them, over a 55G for my refuge, they grow macro like mad.

ingredients:

10 gallon aquarium $10
Lights of America PC floodlight (65w, 6500k bulb) $35
12' white extension cord $3
1x8" x 8' pine $4
one can of Krylon black satin $3? had it laying around.. or stain it if you want to.

Total cost: $55

You would want to add a small HOB heater and a HOB filter or a powerhead, as your taste dictates (I had a HOB heater and filter laying around)... add sand, saltwater and some rock, and you're ready!

That would make a good zoanthid tank....hmmm... maybe soon. My LOA light was pretty yellow, is yours any better?

Aren't there different color bulbs that are differentiated by different color writing on the bulbs?

There is on the flatpacks, not sure on the round bulbs. On the flatpacks some had blue writing, some red and this depicted the kelvin of the bulb.

I've bought four different LOA floodlights over the years, and they've all been 6500k bulbs... they do yellow out over a year's time though... Home Depot carries replacement bulbs, I think they're $15 or so. I'm referring to the round ones... I don't know much about the flat-style ones.

I had to replace my bulb and now mine starts-up like a MH... it is very light and builds in intensity over about 2-4 minutes. Weird! :?

My original bulb did not do this. Anyone else experience anything similar to this?
