Acrylic anyone?

Post by Scott »

Is there anyone here that works with acrylic? I need a housing for my Beckett foam head for a skimmer and would like a clear acrylic with keyhole flanges. I have been reading up on how to make something like this but don't have the time or the equipment right now.

Scott if you use lexan you can treat it like wood, cut it with a circular saw, shoot it with a gun, drill it, screw it , what ever and it want crack. It is very easy to use, I cut the stuff on my table saw. Acrylic is hard to keep from cracking. I get mine from the local glass shop in town and you can get any thickness you want. That is the stuff that I built the dividers in my sump with. I've made all kinds of stuff out of it. If you want to build something out of it just buy it and bring it over to my house and we will build it. I've got all the tool that we will need.

send me a link to what you want to build so I can look at it. And about how much materials it's going to take.

It looks like the beckett part of this skimmer:

I don't have a flange on my downdraft tube though. I have a couple of becketts that will be here next week so the dimentions are kind of unknown. I have been seeing threads on RC where they use 3 inch acrylic pipe and make the flanges out of black extruded acrylic. The rest of the stuff is just valves and PCV fittings.

There is a place in mobile that sells acrylic pipe and it very expensive but they might have some scrapes. I'm not sure of the name of the place but it's in the phone book.

Unless you are just trying to make it look real pretty, you can make a housing out of an 1 1/2 "T" of PVC. You have to add reducers on each end of the "T" but it makes the becket fit real snug. Of coarse, it is not the prettiest thing I have ever seen but works just as good.
