argomax sand

so i upgraded to 75gal after my 55 crashed, i went to a finer suger sand; its called argomax sand and its started to grow algae or something brown of the sort on the sand top is this common for this type of sand?

Not that uncommon in newer sand. Mostly since there is freed phosphate and silicate, as well as an available fresh, clean surface, which makes it easier for the diatoms to cling.
