lighting for some chaeto

Post by keeganpsp »

so i got some chaeto for my sump the other day and realized that i didn't have any light for it, i work at pet supplies plus and i know we have some power glo 18k daylights, i have an old strip that would house this light for my sump but im not sure if this light would be sufficient to help this algae grow? please let me know.

thanks

Go to the lighting section in Lowe's or Home Depot and look for the medium/Edison base clip-on fixtures with aluminum reflectors. Then look for the 40w spiral compact fluorescent lamps--warm white works (~3000K). The lamps are usually $10, fixtures are even less and they do a great job at growing Chaetomorpha--more so than an 18w PowerGlo lamp.

I am using the Bright Effects CFL Daylight bulb using 11W in a reflector. Both chaeto and coralline are growing.
