Losing the battle

Post by snoopdog »

I am losing the Macro Algae battle. This stuff is covering my polyps and other corals and has killed a few just by drowning out the light. Anyone have suggestions on a Tang, the reason I got rid of my Tang was he was an Ich magnet. So what is worse a sick fish keeping the others sick or my corals dying. The emeralds are kinda trimming down the macro algae but too slow. Would our resident Waggy Tail bud have a good deal on a Tang ? preferably a smaller variety.

Don't know about a lot of the differnet tangs, but I can tell you my experience. I have a powder blue...now the pro's are that they eat macro like no tomorrow and the stay relatively small for a tang....like 9 inches or so....the cons are that they can be very territorial and aggressive. My understanding though is that most tangs have the potential for agressive behavoir.

If you decide that a tang is too much of a bother, then get a lawnmower blenny. I have one and although they are not flashy and colorful like a tang, they have the most endearing personalities! Besides, they are hell on macro. Once they eat it all you will have to teach it to eat nori. Unfortunately many never learn how to take nori off a clip and die of starvation. Other than that they seem to be extremewly disease resistant and a pleasure to own!

Good luck,

Elizabeth

How big is your tank...I like the naso overall, but they get kinda big I think. I wouldn't keep one in anything less than a 100!

I have never had a yellow tang that has gotten ick. Mine is small, but does a good job. I would like a purple tang if I could choose any one that I could.
