Well the tank is not outside; it is in a inclosed Florida room. I have heating and cooling in the room as well as a heater for the tank. Algae does come in fazes, but I have a Rare Orange Spotted Blenny (Algae Blenny) that keeps the tank well cleaned, here's a pic of him to see what I mean:

oddball,
Hows your skimmer working out for you? I've heard mixed opinions about that skimmer

Pretty well actualy
( I have a piece of clear hose running from the collection cup to a ten gallon tank under the 29)
and the same size hose I used to pull the water from calm areas of the tank with the two hangon filters.
It was just some python hose that I had extra

Hey! On my 29 gallon reef i have sorta a hybrid of different systems on it.I have a plenum but i also have both a power skimmer( real crappy SeaClone) and a small power filter(Penguin 180).I have the filter just so that i can put carbon in the tank.I have Power Compact lights which are 2 - 65 watt full spectrum and 1 -65 watt actinic.I am not a big fan of these but this entire tank is was i was able to salvage after Katrina. There is maybe 40-50 lbs. of Pacific rock which I have had for around 6 years.I have various stony corals most of which are frags that are just starting to show good growth. At first I used only RO water but since the storm and the change of tank(was a 75 gal.) i have used Gulf water that has been run thru Ozone and sand filtered.(from my work)I also have some soft corals and some gorgonians which i got in the Keys and both a condylactis and a few rock or flower anonemes.(another perk to my job.... the tropical collecting trips twice a year!!!)I will try and post some pics of my tank soon as well as some of my previous reefs. Oh yeah the only fish is a Bicolor angel (a donation) and a Tessilated blenny ( caught diving on rigs in the gulf)I also have a 6 gal reef with a frogfish from the gulf which is a really cool fish but will only take live food!well ill put those pics up soon!

I'm a relative newbie; had a 29g reef with 65w pc & HOB skimmer for one year. Sold it and recently purchased a 70g tub RR that was for sale on this website.

I have 1 175w MH, 2 65w pc's - one blue actinic, one 50/50; about 70# of lr, 60# of sand, and a 20 long sump with skimmer and refugium which has macroalgae. Tank inhabitants:

Blue Tang
Stoplight Parrotfish
Pygmy Angel
False Percula
Green BTA
1 Peppermint shrimp
1 Cleaner shrimp
1 Pistol Shrimp
4 hermits
5+ snails
Green Sinularia
Green finger leather
Xenia
Green Star polyp
Yellow Star polyp
Colonial polyp
Toadstool leather
various mushrooms

Not much, but it's a start.

Hi all! I'm kinda new to posting here, but I've also been lurking for a while...
I just started with a 29gal reef setup this Jan/Feb. All was going well until work picked up and I had to leave my poor non-reefer hubby in charge. He did his best, but unfortunately his schedule picked up while I was gone and the fish and livestock were lost :( No hard feelings.

So, I'm in the process of starting a new setup (Yippee! :D ):
75 Gal RR tank w/ custom DIY stand which I'm in the process of refinishing. I'm putting a diy T5 setup in the canopy and have been kicking around the closed loop/Calfo design for tank circulation w/ a sump/refugium. I've got some ideas for livestock, but don't have anything set in stone yet. I know I want another maroon clown when the time comes!
I've also got this sweet 30L drilled tank that I'll be setting up later this year with the intent of doing some small fragging!

Glad this forum/Group is here! I'm always open to ideas/input from folks :)
