live rock in luggage?

Post by crsswift70 »

weird question: im going to california and figure live rock has got to be cheaper out there. so, since im gonna be flying anyway and probably nowheres near the allowable weight in luggage, can i buy the rock and stick it in an extra suitcase? id be avoiding all the shipping costs involved.
i know, im a cheapskate.... but hey, its an expensive hobby and it would be same day delivery!

there's a pretty low weight for allowable luggage these days, like 40-50lbs I Think? other that, you're gonna pay extra...

I wouldn't risk it, getting asked weird questions about live / wet luggage :)

The weight limits are 2 bags, 50 lbs each.

If you are not a "Sky Miles" member, its 50 bucks for anything 50-79lbs. 80 bucks for anything over 80lbs. Thats the rates through Delta, I would think they are all pretty much the same. You will have all kinds of people questioning and inspecting the rock at the airport. These are not the most careful people. I almost think you would be better off just buying the rock and shipping it back yourself. I guess it all depends on how much rock you want to buy.

Good Luck,
Jeremy
