Collecting Sand From The Beach

OK guys what do you think about collecting sand from the beach. I know its risky with the oil. So I'm only collecting the dry sand far away from the water. So is this sand OK for a reef setup

First, it's illegal.

Second, it's silica sand. It will cause algae/diatom issues.

If you want to, by all means. But once you get it in water, and under lighting it turns an ugly brown color, it's not white at all and looks, well, cheap.
