And people look at me funny when I say I do all my own car oil, transmission and fuel filter changes.

We actually found a local quick change type place that is independently owned and not a chain that we can trust. I still change our own oil usually because it's 40'ish with full synthetic, and about half that if I do it myself, and only takes a few minutes.

The one place I will never in hell take a vehicle to is the Wal-mart auto stuff.. ugh

when i was a younger man i managed a jiffy lube and the problem is
simple the amount of money you are paying a employee plus a very
small amount of commission im talking as low as .50 to 1.00 an item
translates to a younger or not the cream of the crop person.employers
need to understand you get what you pay for.

That's exactly why I sit outside my vehicle and watch every move. On my last visit, they threw away my pan plug because it had no gasket. I have been changing oil for over 35 years ... I've never had a gasket there and never lost any oil because of it. When they tried to charge my 5 bucks for it, I told they could dig mine out of the trash can and reinstall it. Realizing that 5 quarts of full synthetic was more costly to throw away than the plug ... They gave me the new plug. Now that knowledge saved me ... But I wonder how many people that don't know the difference get ripped everyday. It's only 5 bucks, but at the rate of two bays, 4 changes per hour each, 10 hours in a day ... that's a about 400.00 a day. I don't know about most of you ... But I could live well on 400 a day.
