My Sand Rail Project

Post by 29nanomob »

it started with a hand truck layin in the shed floor. i sat on it liked the feel and went with it. this is what i came up with... 1 hand truck, 1 1987 peewee 80 frame. and an old junk kart. about 30 working hours later... the first pic if you scroll down you can tell it was a hand truck (dolly) we cut it up after that to just the outside tubes and base plate. then added the pipes between the frame. the motor is a 5hp industrial plus motor flat head. has a pro comp cam and a custom built pipe (turns out just like a dune buggie.) ill get the motor on it today and update. disk breaks are in the process of being built. rear only.. breaks and throttle will be controled by hand (im in need of bike break handles. preferably aluminum.... will trade frags or 10gal for some.

(engineering 101) the width of any object is its full girth. from out side of tire to out side of tire is its stance the more narrow frame puts the center of gravity realy close to the ground. below the actual frame. it has the same center of gravity as a racing kart the width of the axles determins how "flippable" it is. dont think you are the only one to ask lol everyone that has seen it asked the same question. matter of fact to show my theory my friend 235lb stood on the side frame hanging off the kart butt past the tires tryed jerking it over and only lifted the other side up about an inch with all his force. the live axle is temp so i can get a feel for the frame and how i want it to shift. i have a vari-drive lawnmower with a vtwin 19hp im going to use on it. total frame weight at the moment is still under 65lb.. with tires.

perfect lawnmower found... the kids at the trailer park down the street have an old old ward lawnmower with a live axle that is belt and chain driven. from a horizontal shaft (belt) to the tranny then out of the side of the tranny to a sprocket down to the axle. ima go down there tomorrow and offer them a 6.5hp tajunka for it. if all els fails ima give them my 2seater rock crawler frame and tajunka for it.
