A guy came into B&B a couple weeks ago with a rattle snake around his arm. As you can assume we had to ask him to leave with the animal.

This is the reason why whenever I see a rattler or a cottonmouth in the yard..I pull out the shotgun and blow it away! There are just too many kids around here and my dogs are fearless. Just too much of a liability to let things that dangerous live around my house. Now other snakes are free to slither around and do whatever they want. Now If I had the equipment,(and the cahones) I would catch them and sell the venom to labs.

copperheads are the meanest thing in our area... the thing that really killed the guy's arm is that he had to walk/be carried out for many hours, which means lots of vascular activity, before any antivemon was introduced. He's lucky he survived.

Took care of a snake bite in a 2 year old about a month ago that was the sickest kid I have ever cared for that lived, this was local and it was determined it was a rattler. They are nothing to play with. This kid was bitten 2 times and was already in DIC (bleeding out) with in 2 hours.

This was a severe case. The venom caused a lot of necrotic areas in the tissue. I assume that rattlesnake venom is similar to other pit vipers in this regard.

And to think my in-laws never kill a snake. I guess they do serve a purpose but the downside is a killer.

Daniel, remember that a dead snake can still be dangerous, I remember reading Field and Stream several years ago about a guy that got bit by a rattlesnake's decapitated head (from nerve inpulses or something).

Thats why I blow the snake away! Last time I shot one..the head didnt exist anymore...have you seen what 9 Shot does at 5 feet?!?!
