Help with aptasia

Post by djlynch »

Hey board... Got some aptasia problems..

Ive been trying to kill some aptasia for a while and its just driving me crazy... I use joes juice but they seem to come back tenfold. I tried to add a copperband a month or so ago but my powder blue wasn't having it... 3 days later he got ick and died.

Does anyone know where some pepermint shrimp are near mobile for sale? Even online im having trouble finding some. Ive thought about ordering some of those nudibranches that eat it but after reading how they do it it seems like it is more work than its worth - i can't take the rocks out that they are growing on b/c it would basically be tearing down half of the tank.

Thanks

I have purchased them at B&B and Progressive before.

Try some vinegar worked great for me. Just be careful not to get it on any softies if you have them.

The only problem with that is you cannot "see" all of them, sometimes they are growing behind rock, that is where the shrimp come in handy.

peppermint shrimp are hit and miss from what I have seen...*never had huge outbreak...*

I will say that a cup of water from the fish tank, into the microwave and boiling hot, worked for me...

My last few peppermint shrimp were monsters at cleaning this stuff up.

Shrimp will definitely pop out of a tank. They will especially pop out of a tank when being chased by a fish, there normal reaction to threat is to pop 'backwards' and quickly.

I have been trying to get in peppermint shrimp in over the past few weeks and they have not been available. As soon as I see them I will make sure to get them in.

If Aiptasia could walk they would have taken over the world by now.

My theory is that since they are such a-holes when you kill them they release a thousand spores.
