First Try at a Nano Reef

Post by marcrowe »

Hello everyone,

I'm new to the hobby and am attempting a nano reef with some fish. I've got a 28 gallon JBJ Nano-Cube HQI, which has a rear sump with mechanical sponge, protein filter and activated carbon. I've also got a heater, 150w Metal Halide light (14000K ), and 2 water pumps (with wavemaker).

I'm just setting it up now and will get RO/DI water from my LFS later today. I'm planning on adding live rock and live sand first, possibly from the Florida Gulfarium aquafarm in Ft. Walton Beach, and then let the tank cycle. I've got a thermometer, hydrometer and water testing kit to keep an eye on the parameters. I've also installed ReefCon to track it's progress.

After that I'm planning on adding a pair of clown fish first, then later a royal gramma and anenome (if I feel brave enough). I'm also planning to add some corals, invertebrates, and other critters as time goes on.

Any advice? I'm docmenting my experience on my own blog: http://firstnanoreef.blogspot.com/ where you can find more info.

Thanks,

Marianne
