Can't wait for that article to be posted...
Back to Calcium Hydroxide:
Randy bought his lime from Mississippi Lime Company.. this thread shows what he bought
http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showt ... me+company
CODEX PULVERIZED QUICKLIME :

Would something like that be possible, or feasible? It sounds.. to my unknowing ears, like it would be better stuff than Ms. Wages.

I think I'd rather have the one I posted:
Specs are here:
http://www.mississippilime.com/products ... bsetting=2
#1 Ca0
Heavy Metals 2 ppm
#2 Ca(OH)2
Heavy Metals are 15-20ppm
CaO will become Ca(OH)2 when you add it to water.
We need Krazy(aka Mad Scientist) to figure this out

Now, I'm no chemist major..I'm a computer guy, but I think we can turn dehydrated lime into hydrated lime by uhm.. mixing it with water
CaO + H2O = Ca(OH)2
CaO + H2O = Ca(OH)2

It helps with keep ph up when used in conjunction with a calcium reactor. It also helps precipitates phosphate via the skimmer. I also plan to use a Kalkreactor, and will be constantly dripping the limewater as top off water in the future. Plus I am also speaking for my brother, yet once again.Scott wrote:I am just wondering why you guys need so much. When I dripped kalk I used about 1 bag of Ms. Wages in a year on a 55 gallon tank.
Maybe I should get his lazy butt on this board.

I checked the links to the Mississippi Lime Company, and I think you guys should look into the Codex version of their lime. That just means it's a food grade and will have the highest purity. That would be the equivalent of the Ball's Pickling Lime: http://www.mississippilime.com/products ... bsetting=2
I'm going to talk to the marketing manager today. I'll let you know.
