snoopdog wrote:Well a few options. You can dissasemble the outer front plastic ring from the display assm and get the part number from there. I think it is normally 6 digits on a dell. Or I can check Monday
I will try to check, but I dont think I have tools that small. I will try though.

On most Dells there are rubber plugs around the perimeter and then screws under the plugs. Once you have the plugs removed you can take a credit card or your fingernail to split the shell around the perimeter. This does not take much effort and they normally come apart easily.

Hey Kevin, I just succeeded in completely dis-assembling the lcd display on the laptop, let me give you some numbers to see if you know which one is the part number...

there is a IBM P/N 47L8150
and there is a BL P/N 47L8160

Does this makes any sense to you??? Why two p/n on the same display?

After a little more research, I am pretty sure it goes by the BL part number.

Sorry man, field service has been swamped and I have not had a chance to look it up. I will try to call my vendor tomorrow.

No problem. Getting paid takes priority over "just trying to help someone." Understood. :)

The first number you gave was the correct one, hundreds of listings for it on the web take your pick. Just keep in mind you need to do a purchase, not an exchange since yours is cracked. Also this is an IBM display, also used in Toshiba Laptops. Funny huh, IBM display in a Dell. It's common though, you will see a Toshiba hard drive in a Dell and maybe a Samsung or IBM display. If there is a number on that LCD saying sp# or spares # it will be more accurate.

Here is one from Yahoo

And also

S/N 472220
Could this be the spares number or the serial number?

This sucks...so freaking expensive. I am in no hurry to fix it though.

I am sorry not a spare part number, it was late at night
What I meant to say was a FRU# which stands for Field Replaceable Unit
Normally on any IBM part it has an IBM PN# and a FRU#, most people use the FRU# as a standard for a part number. Yes it will be expensive. If you do not feel comfortable replacing the part I will do it if you get the part and bring it by my house.

I might have to take you up on the offer. Thanks for the advice. :)

Well, yesterday I just turn on my laptop using my computer's monitor, and it was not good. My hard drive was damaged bigtime by the accidental drop. Windows continually tries to fix the bad segments and/or clusters. I finally decided to trash it. Bye Bye Laptop!!!
