Mobile Bay Reef Keepers

For the meeting coming up what is the best way to frag a finger leather coral. I have heard scissors I have heard zip ties...now the other day I tried to do a rubber band and the part of the finger leather shrivled up to a hard piece...fustrated I did a no no and cut that piece off...now I get to watch as that piece is falling apart inside the tank...also I have noticed that on the back of the coral where it was cut before there are black string like things growing horizontally out from it...any suggestions or comments would be awesome.
