Does anyone still have any of Liz's snails and are they still breeding? I think Andy, Snoop, Terry, and Scott all had them.

I have like 2 of them. Plenty of eggs, no babies.

They were Columbellid sp. and they bred well in peoples tanks. Only 1 of mine survived the move over here. I'd like to find a few more to get the group going again. They looked like this:

Anyone else have them?

I would like to know what happens to mine after they hatch. I mean the survival rate cannot be that low. It only takes one snail right ???

Columbellid snails are pretty cool. Not much is known about them (I believe they are hermaphroditic, but must mate separately--no self fertilization). We actually received a misidentified shipment of Nassarius spp. snails that were actually adult Columbellids. If there is enough algae and few if any predators, these should multiply like mad, especially since they have no planktonic larval phase.

I am thinking they lived much better when I kept algae in the tank, I bet that is why the babies never live.

Kevin, I'd like to get the 'rabbit snails' breeding again. Would you be willing to give yours up? I have 1 or maybe 2.

If you're willing to give them up, let me know what you want for the 2 you have. I'll be back in Mobile the weekend of Mardi Gras and can pick them up.

Thanks,

Jeff

I literally only have 3 live snails alive. I purchased at least 50 last year.

2 of the live ones are the ones you speak of. The last is an unknown hitchhiker. These guys are survivors.
