I have installed laminate in two rooms. I really like how durable it is and how easy it is to clean up.... But, I absolutely hate how slick it is. Our dogs can't stand on it worth a darn. Especially if they just came in with damp paws.
I am going to rip up the laminate I have in the entrance for that reason.

If I went with hardwood in the hall I would have to keep runners down I am sure, the same with tile. I thought about cork but the install process is a pain, and with our birds I don't want to have to evacuate them for a couple of days while I put polyurethane down to finish it. Aaarrrgh... see I've been trying to decide on this for a couple of years now :)

I know what you mean. Our dogs have had to get used to walking slower to avoid slipping. I used to throw the ball down the hallway for Tasha but can't do it since we got the laminate. So there are some down sides but I still wouldn't go back to carpet.

Watching a dog slide on a slippery surface is the joy of owning a dog, I say embrace it.

My dog doesn't seem to enjoy tile very much. He doesn't mind it anymore, I guess, but his paws get zero traction, so he kinda does a split whenever he sits down. It's pretty funny. Also, when he is in the mood to play around, he usually runs in place for a second or two until he can get some traction  .

We had the same problem with the cats when we got the laminate floor. Nothing like watching the look on their face when they realize they can't stop and right before they hit the wall.
Taking off is another matter, although it does take a few seconds to see any actual forward motion.
