I made this the other day, for filling my buckets, i got tired of doing it a little at a time. Made with

1" T connector
1" pipe section
cheap float valve
pipe cutter or hacksaw

It fills the bucket exactly to the 5 gallon mark and shuts off. It is really stable and unless you intentionally knocked it off the bucket it would neve come off.

Nice one!

Why don't you autofill the tank directly with a float?

One reason is unlike my sump that i have for sale this one does not have a place for a float, so that would mean drilling into the sump, that is not an option. Second reason is that the water source is on the other side of the kitchen. But this whole project was not for filling the aquarium, this is for water changes. You can imagine doing routine water changes calls for some time saving ideas. I hook this sucker up and put in two cups of salt in the bucket. I place this gadget on top and let it fill. Repeat....rinse.....
