Re: GRRRR!!! I'm at my wits end!!!
My LFS has a poster on their wall and it's just listed as red hair algae or wire algae and looking at pics of all three genera I would say the best match is Gelidium.

GRRRR!!! I'm at my wits end!!!
Okay, so I'm about pissed off and I'm at my wits end trying to solve this problem. I've got red hair algae in my tank and this crap has EXPLODED. Just to be clear it is NOT cyano. This is an actual algae that also goes by the name of "wire algae" and that name fits. You can't pull this jun...

Re: Forum Invite
I just wanted to show everyone what I won through Modern Reef Keeping. As I said in the original post, they offer monthly contests. Well, I won two of them. The first pic is of the NextReef media reactor I won. To show the size my two "helpers" are with it. It is a beast! The second pic is...

Re: Green film/slim/algae on glass, need help
After rereading my first post I realize I left off an important piece of information and I believe that has caused some of the confusion. Andrew is correct in that a UV sterilizer will not kill fill algae when it's on the glass. What I failed to mention was that the sterilizer will kill any spores a...

Re: Green film/slim/algae on glass, need help
Yes I realize that cyano comes in different colors but it is primarily the familiar rust/maroon color that we find in our aquariums and that is usually on the bottom and on rocks vs. the glass. A UV sterilize WILL help because it will destroy any cells whether they are bacterial or algal. I agree th...

Re: Green film/slim/algae on glass, need help
Andrew, don't believe it's cyano since the OP said it's green. I don't recall seeing a green cyano, but God knows I've been wrong before.....but it was a LONG time ago.....and it was only once.........and I was little........but I ended up being right after all!

Re: Green film/slim/algae on glass, need help
If it's what I'm thinking it is you will have a hard time getting ride of it. It is most likely a single celled algae and it is what makes ponds look like pea soup and such. There are several ways to handle ALL algae problems, but of course the root is excess nutrients. Are you running a skimmer or ...

Re: Aiptasia-X
Now that I say I never see my shrimp, I saw two of them last night. One is a gravid female, so the corals will be eating pretty well soon!

Re: Urchins
Thanks JRA, yeah P'Cola is too far for me to drive for that. $30 is about what they sell for online, but the good news is that the spiny one you saw is usually the Didema species. There is an Atlantic spiny and that may be what it is however. Going to Mobile today, so I will swing in and see. Thanks...

Urchins
Does anyone know if B&B or Progressive have Diadmea or blue tuxedo urchins and if so, how much? I have red hair algae (NOT cyano) and have tried several things with no luck. My turbos wouldn't even eat it--figures  . The two shops over here either can't get them or I can't get an answer. I...

Re: Aiptasia-X
I use Joe's Juice. It seems to work very well, but I've recently added some shrimp too, because a lot of the Aiptasia in my tank are in spots I can't get to. I've not really noticed my shrimp going after them, but then again, my shrimp are never out in the light--only at night and then it's rare tha...
