I am sure there are a lot of variables, but can any of you sps people out there give an idea on how long it takes for a coral to color up if its going to?

As far as I know there is no set rule....I have had some that took over a yr and some only couple of wks....both were from the same coral so type did not matter.....they do it when everyone is happy and they want to...IMO

That's prety much what I have heard. Some brown corals stay brown for years then just change others change within weeks. As long as your water quality, lighting and water movement is good they will do good. I think the big one is water quality with water movement being a close second.
Wanted: to set up a tank again.

dont forget temperature...if it gets to hot, they get pissed and brown out...i dropped the temp to 78 after being at 84 all the dang time, and it took about a week for my brown to start showing a green hue...also, temp stability..dont let it fluctuate, pisses em off also
