How to best trade live rock for frags/equipment?

Post by DIfishhead »

I have a fair amount of live rock (about 150 pounds), covered with coraline algae, and want to trade it for frags and/or equipment. What would be the best way to go about it? Is there enough interest among the forum users to trade? How much LFS credit is normally extended for nice pieces?
Thanks for the advice.

I wouldn't rely on the LFS's for trade in. You'd do much better with patience and local reefers. Also check out the panhandle reefers site. They're pretty active on their forum.

I've got only a modestly stocked 12 gallon reef tank now.

I would be interested in frags of somewhat hardier soft corals. (what do you think would compliment the tank?) I have added a couple of riccordia since the photos were taken.

I am interested in a JBJ 24D or 28HQI or Oceanic BioCube29.
Also on the Christmas list are the Oceanic BioCube Protein Skimmer,
a HOB Protein skimmer for my 30 and/or 70 gal tanks, I/O salt, and other odds and ends.

Thanks for the advice!

I know you're over in Dauphin Island, but I have a huge Anchor coral and several Kenya Trees. If you're ever over here in P'Cola, you are welcome to swing by and frag any of these.

Many of my corals started as frags from other reefers, so I try to pass along the same courtesey whenever possible.

Another idea, is our local reef club has quarterly meetings and frag swaps. You may want to plan a trip and attend our next meeting (November)...We're still ironing out a location, so stay tuned...

See ya,
